Miss Courtney - Head Teacher Bold Ability Arts
Meet Courtney Lyons, a vibrant face behind Bold Ability Arts, a powerhouse of experience, passion and boundless enthusiasm. As the Head of Bold Ability Arts, Courtney wears many hats, seamlessly blending her extensive background in dance
and performing arts with a commitment to inclusivity and mentorship.
With three decades immersed in the dance world, Courtney's journey began as a junior dancer on the Central Coast, where she conquered RAD Ballet and BAL tap examinations. Her skills blossomed further when she earned a Certificate IV in Performing Arts at Brent Street Studios in Sydney. Not just confined to the studio, Courtney's eclectic career includes roles as a dancer, promoter and model, featuring in TV film clips, Mardi Gras festivals and promotional shows.
But it was in teaching that Courtney discovered her true passion. As a seasoned dance instructor, she honed her craft, earning qualifications in Glenn Wood Tap and International Dance Technique. Her path took an unexpected turn to the small town of Cobar, where she not only continued her dance instruction but also embraced roles in the mining industry, showcasing her versatility as a PA, Safety and Health representative, HR recruiter and Accounts Payable professional.
Relocating to Wollongong, Courtney continued to balance her dance instruction with a stint at Qantas in the communications building. In 2010, she returned to her roots on the Central Coast, purchasing her childhood dance studio, The Ritz Dance Company. Over 11 successful years, Courtney provided a nurturing environment for her students, delivering memorable performances at prestigious venues like Universal Studios Hollywood, Disneyland Anaheim and NRL Grand Finals just to name a few.
As a Director, she achieved outstanding results at local competitions and proudly held the title of Dancelife Unite National Champions. Amidst these triumphs, Courtney embraced motherhood, whilst continuing to partner with local community services to pioneer a inclusive dance program, exemplifying her commitment to accessibility in performing arts.
In 2020, Courtney joined the Futures Dance & Sport Program as a team leader under the guidance of Michelle Cuneo, as well as delving into university courses on “Living with Disabilities”, “In The Eyes of Disability” and “Health & Mental Components - Life with a Disability”. Simultaneously, she contributes to the Catholic High School system as a Learning Support Aide at St Peter’s Catholic College.
Courtney's journey reflects a tapestry of experiences, from adventurous roles in the performing arts industry to shaping young dancers' lives. Fuelled by a positive mindset and an unwavering love for dance, she has seamlessly transitioned into every new chapter of her career. Courtney is dedicated to providing a safe, encouraging and high-quality program for the participants of Bold Ability Arts, embracing diversity and fostering a love for the arts for everyone.
